Simplify your meals, simplify your life, thank me latter :)
Hello dears!
Hope you are staying warm and cozy!
My life brought me to the point where I needed to minimize my possessions. Becoming a nomad in a way, traveling light... It's a new concept, new mentality all together. I had to chose a few outfits, being practical and owing a few of my favorite clothes.
Having a walk-in closet, full of stuff that I never wear. High heels that I don't remember wearing last time. Why do I keep it? It was so difficult to let go. I had some comfort, it brought some sense of security to me. What if...? What if I need need it and I don't have it? Meanwhile wearing a handful of pieces over and over. The most comfortable, the most "me" outfits. Now I have what I need only. So much better!
Next step was to simplify our meals. I love looking for inspirational meal ideas. Browsing cookbooks at the library, scrolling Facebook, so many great recipes! The problem, it's so time consuming, and shopping for all those wild ingredients. Then we realized that it's so much easier and faster to keep our meals at minimum too. If you'll think about it, you eat the same dishes for breakfast over and over again. Your lunches too. We tend to eat the same meals all the time, but somehow we deny it. Why?
It's OK to have a handful of your favorite meals and rotate it. Pick what's in season, what your family love and stick with it.
Your shopping list will stay the same.
You know that everyone will like it, you'll become a pro to create that meal in no time.
It will greatly reduce the waste.
It will save you some money.
Less stress and anxiety! I hear it all the time, "I'm going crazy, I don't know what to cook"
Pick one day a week where you want to have a fun night in the kitchen to make something new and creative. We make it for Shabbat. A new cuisine. It's a super special time for us. We get excited for that night, and it's a date at home. With some music on, a drink while we cook it together and lots of laughter. Absolutely no stress!
How to start that meal rotation.
Think about your favorite meals.
For us it's super simple dinners. A salad, and something on the grill. Chicken, steaks, fish. Everyone loves it. Fast. Healthy.
I make soup and it's a perfect lunch.
Mornings are scrambled eggs, cheese, toasts, some smashed avocado with salt and herbs. Sometimes we would have a salad too.
We have yogurts in the fridge and it makes perfect desserts, with some added frozen blueberries. We also keep dates, honey, dark chocolate - great for that sweet craving. Seasonal fruits.
It's OK to have a pizza night. You might even make it at home.
Open that calendar, see your schedule, with kids activities, and plan accordingly.
You don't have to make yourself crazy over meal ideas. We eat to live!
Simple is good. Embrace it!
You will simply live with your favorite things, your favorite clothes, shoes, books, things that make you smile. And you will eat only your favorite meals. That will make you smile. You will become happier and healthier! It will remove distractions, and will give you more energy, time, money, and peace. Embrace it.
Plan. Shop. Cook. Eat. Repeat.
